St.Gallen Collegium

"Re-interpreting Freedom"

The first annual theme of the St. Gallen Collegium 2025/26

Freedom, a guiding principle of Western modernity, is under pressure. Technological upheavals, ecological limits and political erosion are challenging our understanding of self-determination, responsibility and maturity. In the 2025/26 academic year, the St. Gallen Collegium will devote itself to rethinking freedom under these new conditions. To this end, researchers from all over the world and from various disciplines will come together for a year – in a joint attempt to develop a way of thinking that takes the challenges of the present seriously, is academically sound and at the same time socially engaged.

You can find more information about the selection of topics and the launch of the Collegium in the press release: St.Gallen Collegium an der HSG widmet sich dem Thema «Freiheit neu denken» (unisg.ch)

Our Vision

From insights to impact: this is the credo we have committed ourselves to at the HSG. However, in order to find answers to the most pressing questions of our time, we need to create new structures. That is why we at the HSG want to be the first business university to launch the St.Gallen Collegium. Starting in 2025, outstanding personalities and researchers from all over the world will come together in St.Gallen to develop solutions to major social problems in dialogue with personalities from business and society. In doing so, we are fulfilling an important mission as a university.

With this vision and its St.Gallen Collegium, the HSG is breaking new ground as a pioneer in economics. In doing so, the HSG is creating a unique platform for collaborative work and research, as well as for the sharing of knowledge by selected, interdisciplinary experts. This is a programme of excellence that is only possible thanks to your donations. The Collegium would therefore like to express its gratitude to its existing donors and sponsors.
