Sustainability re-imagined. St. Gallen Collegium fellow Prof. Dr. Annette Kehnel demonstrates how early modern St. Gallen already practiced resource-efficient management and why we find it so difficult to learn from history today.
Sustainability as a survival strategy. Prof. Dr. Annette Kehnel uses examples from St. Gallen and the surrounding area to show how people were already conserving resources in the Middle Ages and early modern period. The lecture is organized by the Historical Society of the Canton of St. Gallen and will take place as part of a public evening event. From the management of scarce fish stocks to early financing practices and paper production as a recycling model, the lecture opens up surprising perspectives on sustainable management.
