At its core, conservatism is about preserving: preserving order, custom, tradition, and values. And yet, time and time again, conservative politicians have also proven to be innovators or guardians of renewal and thus key figures in times of upheaval. Today, however, center-right parties seem torn between an alliance with reactionary forces and a clear commitment to a liberal, open society.
In his new book, Roger de Weck calls for conservatives to engage in political self-reflection, in order to once again become guarantors of stability. At SQUARE, the HSG alumnus and advisory board member of the St.Gallen Collegium will discuss the past and future of conservatism with two researchers who study it closely: PD Dr. Martin Beckstein and Dr. Eno Trimçev, Fellow at the St.Gallen Collegium. The conversation will be moderated by Prof. Claudia Brühwiler.
